Equivalent a posteriori error estimates for spectral element solutions of constrained optimal control problem in one dimension
In this paper, we study spectral element approximation for a constrained optimal control problem in one dimension. The equivalent a posteriori error estimators are derived for the control, the state and the adjoint state approximation. Such estimators can be used to construct adaptive spectral elements for the control problems.
متن کاملOn the Modal Content of A Posteriori Necessities
This article challenges the Kripkean interpretation of a posteriori necessities. It will be demonstrated, by an analysis of classic examples, that the modal content of supposed a posteriori necessities is more complicated than the Kripkean line suggests. We will see that further research is needed concerning the a priori principles underlying all a posteriori necessities. In the course of this ...

متن کاملA-Posteriori Analysis and Adaptive Algorithms for the Quasicontinuum Method in One Dimension
The quasicontinuum (QC) method is a coarse-graining technique for reducing the complexity of atomistic simulations in a static and quasistatic setting. In this paper we give an a-posteriori error analysis for the quasicontinuum method in one dimension. We consider atomistic models with Lennard–Jones type finite-range interactions. We prove that, for a stable QC solution with a sufficiently smal...
متن کاملA Posteriori Estimation of Dimension Reduction Errors
A new a posteriori error estimator is presented for the verification of the dimensionally reduced models stemming from the elliptic problems on thin domains. The original problem is considered in a general setting, without any specific assumptions on the domain geometry, coefficients and the right-hand sides. The estimator provides a guaranteed upper bound for the modelling error in the energy ...
